Pregnancy is a great time to develop healthy lifestyle changes. Baby Bodies provides an opportunity to prepare yourself physically for childbirth, and to assist with recovery after birth. Caring for your baby begins with taking care of yourself.
Exercising regularly can provide benefits to both you and your baby.
Who is it for?
Baby Bodies includes a balanced exercise program designed for women of any stage of pregnancy and those recovering in the 12 months after delivery. This specific exercise program has been developed by a physiotherapist with a special interest in women's health.
What will I be doing?
- A warm up to prepare your body for activity
- Core stability using Clinical Pilates equipment
- Specific strengthening exercises that target muscle groups most affected by pregnancy
- Postural awareness exercises to prevent the onset of pain and injury
- Flexibility and mobility exercises for home
- A cool down to prevent injury
What does it include?
Individual sessions with the physiotherapist are initially required for a musculo-skeletal assessment. You will also receive practical and useful information on:
- Exercising safely
- Dealing with pregnancy related discomforts
- Back and neck care
- Improving your pelvic floor muscles
- Choosing equipment for your baby
Course Structure
- After 3 individual sessions you will progress to our one hour group exercise sessions in the Clinical Pilates Studio
- Numbers in each group are limited and bookings are required. There are many groups to choose from 6 days a week.
- The Baby Bodies Course consists of succesively staged programs, planned for 6 weeks (one hour group sessions).
- Rebates for group sessions may be available through some private health insurance ancillary cover.
- Participants should bring a drink, an energy snack (if desired), and wear loose comfortable clothing, a supportive bra and socks with your shoes.
